THE MENTAL SIDE OF THE GAME

No matter what sport you play, no matter what level you play at your mind and mental strength play a vital role in how well we play and deal with success and failure equally. Dealing with your mindset and mentality can unlock doors in your progression on and off a squash court.

YOUR MINDSET

Your mindset is a set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world. It influences how think, feel and behave on and off court.

Mindset can have a huge impact on the performance level of athletes at all levels in every and any sport.

As well as training physically for squash, improving your fitness and improving your game on court, you also need to train the mind.

This can be difficult and overwhelming to start with, but it can start with something basic like having a plan. The next step is to have belief in yourself that you can and will improve, no matter what stage you're at in your squash career from junior player, club player, team player or professional; we can all improve.

One to one sessions on court, in the gym or online all have the option to work on mindset.

Is Mindset the same as Mental Health?

When we talk about mindset, we're talking about a belief system that we have (and may have had for years). When we talk about mental health, we're talking about a chemical imbalance or a traumatic experience that causes issues that stop you from functioning in a way that you should or could.

If you are experiencing difficulties, it's ok not to be ok, it's ok to share these thoughts with others. If you or someone you know is struggling right now then there are people to talk to including Mind the Mental Health Charity.
